SCRIPTURE
Mark 4:30-32 (NRSV)
The kingdom like a mustard seed
He also said, "With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade."
MEDITATION—Today is Saturday Psalmody! Today, the meditation is offered as a psalm from my heart. If you would like a more traditional devotion, please search the archives for a title that appeals to you! (smile)
MAY NOT LOOK LIKE MUCH…
We don’t look like much
Do we?
Just a rag tag band
Of scraggly believers
Runnin’ around
Trying to make Your Name known
Some of us labor in schools,
Warehouses,
Old abandoned shopping centers
All seeking to make your name famous—
To make Your Love known.
We don’t look like much do we?
Some in houses
In need of repair
Oh no! The roof fell in!
Need partners
Just to pay the bills some days
But, that’s okay
You never looked like much either
They underestimated you
too…
We may not be the most beautiful
The strongest or the wealthiest
But we know that we are rich beyond
Anyone’s wildest imagination
For we
possess
YOU.
We’re like the tiny little mustard seed.
I’ve got one in my hand.
I can barely see it.
It don’t look like much either
Yet when placed into the ground
Watered and nurtured
It becomes the greatest of shrubs
Offering life and shelter
to many of Your creatures
I don’t look like much
Just a short, round, little girl
With glasses
From hardly no where
But, you tend me,
Give me living water
Bread from heaven
Spirit to empower
Spirit to equip
A strong voice and willing, working, hands
And by your Spirit, I am able to do much!
Don’t underestimate me!
Don’t underestimate US!
I’ve got brothers and sisters
They too are filled with Spirit.
They too are working hard.
Together we’re making His name famous!
Just a few
scraggly little followers…
Turned the world
Up-
Side-
Down!
Men and women
Proclaiming GOOD NEWS
Faithfully…
Urgently…
20 became 40
40 became 80
100,000 became 200,000
A million became 10 million
10 million became 1 billion
1 billion became 2.1 billion
And on and on we go…
Ha! Ha!
Alone, we may not look like much
But, we are many and
God is strong
Together we are hastening God’s kingdom
Loving God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength
Loving our neighbors as ourselves.
Preaching
Teaching
Loving
Caring
Building
Feeding
There can be no end to our good works…
All done
In Jesus’ Name!
We might not look like much now
But, come Sunday
The Greatest of Sundays
The “I’ll fly away Sunday”
We’re gonna dip in the River of Life…
Dance!
Oh how we’ll dance!
And…
When we come face to face with God
I believe that we will realize,
We may not have looked like much of anything some days,
But, my, oh my!
We were so much more than what we looked like.
Together,
With God
Because of Jesus
Empowered by Spirit
We changed the world
Together
We will make a world
On Earth…
As it is in Heaven.
Hallelujah!
Amen!
