THE BLOOD OF JESUS!

SCRIPTURE

Leviticus 15:19-31 (NRSV)

Bleeding women are unclean

When a woman has a discharge of blood that is her regular discharge from her body, she shall be in her impurity for seven days, and whoever touches her shall be unclean until the evening. Everything upon which she lies during her impurity shall be unclean; everything also upon which she sits shall be unclean. Whoever touches her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe in water, and be unclean until the evening. Whoever touches anything upon which she sits shall wash his clothes, and bathe in water, and be unclean until the evening; whether it is the bed or anything upon which she sits, when he touches it he shall be unclean until the evening. If any man lies with her, and her impurity falls on him, he shall be unclean seven days; and every bed on which he lies shall be unclean.

If a woman has a discharge of blood for many days, not at the time of her impurity, or if she has a discharge beyond the time of her impurity, all the days of the discharge she shall continue in uncleanness; as in the days of her impurity, she shall be unclean. Every bed on which she lies during all the days of her discharge shall be treated as the bed of her impurity; and everything on which she sits shall be unclean, as in the uncleanness of her impurity. Whoever touches these things shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes, and bathe in water, and be unclean until the evening. If she is cleansed of her discharge, she shall count seven days, and after that she shall be clean. On the eighth day she shall take two turtledoves or two pigeons and bring them to the priest to the entrance of the tent of meeting. The priest shall offer one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering; and the priest shall make atonement on her behalf before the Lord for her unclean discharge.

Thus you shall keep the people of Israel separate from their uncleanness, so that they do not die in their uncleanness by defiling my tabernacle that is in their midst.

DEVOTION

Every day I meditate on the scripture of the day from the Revised Standard Lectionary! The last two days I have really been challenged to connect the scripture to my love for evangelism!

Today, I just want to thank God for the blood of Jesus that makes all of us clean! In the days of
Leviticus, the people believed that the blood of a woman made her and everyone around her unclean.

But, this side of the cross, we know that it is the blood of Jesus that makes us clean from all of our unrighteousness!

Can I get a Hallelujah!

Aren’t you glad that God loves us so much that God gave Jesus to die upon the cross to save us from our sin and gift us with eternal life?

If it were not for the blood of Jesus, we would be drowning in our sin. We would have no hope for eternal salvation. We would be bereft of any hope!

But, because of the shed blood of Jesus, we are able to cast all of our cares on God, knowing that God cares for us. Because of the blood of Jesus, we are able to approach the Throne of God seeking, and receiving mercy, when we put all of our hope in Jesus!

I don’t know about you, but I get happy-glad when I think about God’s great love for us revealed to us on the cross!

Jesus made a great sacrifice to reconcile our relationship with God! Let us remember to thank and praise God daily for the blood of Jesus!

Now, ain’ta that GOOD NEWS?!

Holy God, thank you for the shed blood of Jesus that makes atonement for my sin. I am so thankful that you love me so much that you gave Jesus to die and rise again! Please forgive me of my sin and fill me with the Holy Spirit. I can’t wait to share your love with others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
