SCRIPTURE
Psalm 111 (NRSV)
God gives food
Praise the Lord!
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
Great are the works of the Lord,
studied by all who delight in them.
Full of honor and majesty is his work,
and his righteousness endures forever.
He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds;
the Lord is gracious and merciful.
He provides food for those who fear him;
he is ever mindful of his covenant.
He has shown his people the power of his works,
in giving them the heritage of the nations.
The works of his hands are faithful and just;
all his precepts are trustworthy.
They are established forever and ever,
to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
He sent redemption to his people;
he has commanded his covenant forever.
Holy and awesome is his name.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
all those who practice it have a good understanding.
His praise endures forever.
DEVOTION
Doesn’t today’s devotion make you want to shout for joy?!
I love today’s Psalm because it is a powerful reminder that every human being has a testimony to share. My favorite line from Psalm 111 is “[God] has gained renown by his wonderful deeds.”
When I looked up the word “renown” in the dictionary it said, “widespread celebrity, glory, or fame.”
In other words, God becomes famous by God’s wonderful deeds! How do these deeds become known? When we, as Christians, share our GOOD NEWS testimonies with others!
I believe that every human being has a story to tell about how good God has been to them! Today’s Psalmist penned 23 lines about God’s goodness in order to make God famous amongst his friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors.
I bet all of us could pen 20-25 short lines about the goodness of God in our own lives. We could celebrate God for the wonderful Earth that we live on, the clean air that we breathe and the fresh water that we drink. We could thank God that when we woke up this morning we were “clothed and in our right minds” with a reasonable portion of life, health, and strength. We could praise God for the love of our family members—spouses, children, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. We could appreciate God for food, clothes, shelter, health care, transportation, employment, and educational opportunities.
Additionally, and most importantly, we could—and should—glorify God for the gift of Jesus Christ! Aren’t you glad that God loves us so much that God gave Jesus to die on the cross to save us from our sin and gift us with eternal life! Aren’t you ecstatic that Jesus did not stay dead, but was resurrected on the third day, just as He promised!
This gift is the most awesome and precious one that anyone has ever--or will ever—give to you! When God gave us Jesus, God gave us everything…
Oh hallelujah!
No matter who we are--or what we’re going through--things could always be worse! Just the fact that we have access to the technology--and wherewithal--to read this blog means that we are very, very fortunate! We are able to see or hear, read, speak or type, sit or lay down in front of a computer, with access to electricity and internet to make it all work!
Wow! God is so good!
Will you make up your mind to make Jesus famous by sharing your GOOD NEWS testimony with others? I will…
PASTOR YOLANDA’S PSALM OF PRAISE
God is great
And greatly to be praised
God gives the sun, moon, and stars
Planets, oceans, air, and trees
For my enjoyment
When I open my eyes in the morning
It is because God has breathed on me
I hear the birds singing and my children playing
And I know that all is well in my world
When my husband wraps me up in his arms
Placing a kiss upon my head
I know that I am cherished
And I know that I am cared for.
So today, I will run through the grass
I will glory in the fact that I am
Healthy, happy, holy and whole
I will giggle into the wind
With my hands upraised to the sky
As I magnify The One
Who makes all things possible!
My Lord and My God
Your love toward me is amazing
The gift of Jesus
Is my everything…
HALLELUJAH and AMEN!
