SCRIPTURE

Mark 11:12-14, 20-24 (NRSV)

Condemnation and blessing

On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see whether perhaps he would find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. He said to it, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And his disciples heard it. ...

In the morning as they passed by, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots. Then Peter remembered and said to him, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered." Jesus answered them, "Have faith in God. Truly I tell you, if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and if you do not doubt in your heart, but believe that what you say will come to pass, it will be done for you. So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

MEDITATION
—Today is Saturday Psalmody; the mediation is offered as a psalm from my heart! If you would like a more traditional devotion, please search the archives for a title that appeals to you! (smile)

APPEARANCES

I have been that fig tree

Looking good on the outside

Seems like I’ve got everything together

But upon closer inspection

It’s all smoke and mirrors

I’m all withered and dry

Producing no good fruit

Worn out

Torn down

T-I-R-E-D

I’ve been trying to make it on my own

But, You, Sir

Are living water

You rain down your blessing

And anointing in a dry and arid land

Where there’s been no water

And suddenly!

New life appears

Flowers

Grasses

Food in season and out

Life—real life—

True life

Eternal life

Forever.

Ask, whatever you wish in My Name

In accordance with my will

Do not dobut

And it shall be done…

You don’t have to live like this

DRY

DUSTY

USED UP

Only believe...
