Glorious Are You

SCRIPTURE

Psalm 76 (NRSV)
God is victorious

In Judah God is known,
his name is great in Israel.
His abode has been established in Salem,
his dwelling place in Zion.
There he broke the flashing arrows,
the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war.
Selah

Glorious are you, more majestic
than the everlasting mountains.
The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil;
they sank into sleep;
none of the troops
was able to lift a hand.
At your rebuke, O God of Jacob,
both rider and horse lay stunned.

But you indeed are awesome!
Who can stand before you
when once your anger is roused?
From the heavens you uttered judgment;
the earth feared and was still
when God rose up to establish judgment,
to save all the oppressed of the earth.
Selah

Human wrath serves only to praise you,
when you bind the last bit of your wrath around you.
Make vows to the Lord your God, and perform them;
let all who are around him bring gifts
to the one who is awesome,
who cuts off the spirit of princes,
who inspires fear in the kings of the earth.

DEVOTION

I can’t help but start today’s devotion with a “Hallelujah Praise!”

The psalmist who penned this song was really flowing in the spirit, right?

I love the descriptive words used to praise our God. The psalmist says that God is great, glorious, majestic, awesome, and praiseworthy!

God is all of that and so much more, my friends! I love the invitation issued at the end of Psalm 76; it implores us to, “Make vows to the Lord your God, and perform them; let all who are around him bring gifts.”

Indeed, God is worthy of our vows and of our best gifts! Fortunately, what God desires from us is so simple! God wants us to believe—by faith—that Love gave Jesus to die on the cross to save us from our sin and to gift us with eternal life! God wants us to put all of our hope in God’s Son, who died and rose again in order to reconcile our relationship with our Creator and to open Heaven’s doors to us—eternally!

Wow!

On the eve of Thanksgiving Day, let us turn our bodies, hearts, and minds to God. Let us confess our sin and return with all of our hearts to the God who knows, loves, saves, and redeems us!

God has gifted us with so many wonderful blessings; let us say “thanks” by loving God with all our hearts, minds, souls, and strength and loving our neighbor as ourselves.

Will you take a moment to praise God with all of your heart today?

Lord God, indeed you are great, glorious, majestic, awesome, and praiseworthy! I love and adore you so very much! Thank you for every gift that you have showered into my life. Thanks especially for Jesus and for his death and resurrection on my behalf. On this day, I ask that you would please forgive me of my sin and fill me with the Holy Spirit. I want to offer to you all of who I am—body, mind, and spirit in service to the Kingdom of Love! Please lead and guide me as I share your good news with others. I pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
