The Name of Jesus
Philippians 2:5-11 (NRSV)
God takes on human form
Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus,
who, though he was in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God
as something to be exploited,
but emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to the point of death--
even death on a cross.
Therefore God also highly exalted him
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
DEVOTION
Praise that wonderful Name of JESUS!
I don’t know about you, but it was a wonderful joy to ring in the New Year on my knees!
In many Christian traditions it is customary to have a “Watch Night Service” in the church. We sing, testify, read scripture, preach, and then pray. As the clock strikes midnight, we are found on our knees thanking and praising God for the successful completion of another year’s journey!
I love New Year’s Day because it is full of possibilities. Yesterday my father said, “Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of my life!”
At the time I didn’t appreciate the wisdom of this statement, but upon further reflection I found that he was right!
Today, we are called to imitate the example of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Let us approach this New Year with humility and sincerity of purpose. Let us live our lives with the utmost of excellence, tenderness, and compassion. Let us pour out our very lives in faithful love and service to others. And let us trust that as we walk in fellowship with God and humanity, exuding the loving spirit of Christ within us, God will exalt us in due season, if we faint not!
OH, HALLELUJAH!
All of the promises of God are "Yay and Amen!" I am expecting the mighty and abundant outpouring of God on every aspect of my life in the year 2010 and beyond!
I love Philippians 2: 9-11 which states, “Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
It is my greatest honor and privilege to be the servant and sister of Jesus Christ!
As we enter 2010 together, let us recommit ourselves to reading, sharing, and BE-ing the good news of Jesus Christ in the lives of everyone we meet!
To GOD be the glory, great things GOD has done, is doing, and will ever do. Amen.
Won’t you pray with me?
Wow God! I’m so excited about the start of this New Year. Please forgive me of my sin and fill me with your Holy Spirit. I recommit myself to following you wherever you may lead. Please take my life and let it be consecrated Lord to Thee! I pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
