I Will Send YOU!
LENT-DAY 2
SCRIPTURE
Acts 7:30-34 (NRSV)
Moses, called from the burning bush to the exodus
"Now when forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning bush. When Moses saw it, he was amazed at the sight; and as he approached to look, there came the voice of the Lord: 'I am the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.' Moses began to tremble and did not dare to look. Then the Lord said to him, 'Take off the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. I have surely seen the mistreatment of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their groaning, and I have come down to rescue them. Come now, I will send you to Egypt.'"
DEVOTION
Today is Day 2 of the Lenten Season. This season is all about the call to fasting, prayer, almsgiving, abstinence and confession. During this time of year we make the 40-days (plus Sundays) journey to the cross with Jesus, ever aware of the fact that it was our sin that required so great a sacrifice!
So, it seems a little strange to me that today we read Moses’ “call” to lead his people out of the bondage endured in Egypt. But, it is also an amazing affirmation that God is willing to use ordinary and imperfect people to do extraordinary works in God’s Name.
I am so humbled and grateful that just as God called Moses to do a good work, God is calling each of us into God’s service as well.
Today, I hear God saying to us, “I am the God of your ancestors…Take the shoes from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. I have surely seen the mistreatment of my people and have heard their groaning, and I have come down to rescue them. Come now, I will send YOU.”
Wow! It’s astounding that God would be willing to partner with us to bring the good news to the entire world!
I am so glad that God is so determined that all should know that Love gave Jesus to die on the cross to save us from our sin and gift us with eternal life and that although Jesus did die in shame, he rose again on the third day in victory!
Because of the generosity of God, we get to be God’s hands, feet, and mouth in this world! We get to read, share, and BE good news within our spheres of influence. We get to be the face and presence of Jesus for those in need of Him!
Today, I want to invite us to put aside our excuses and willingly serve God—today and always! It will be an amazing experience…
Won’t you pray with me?:
Holy God, I confess that I have not always been willing to hear and head your voice when you have called to me by your spirit. I have not always been willing to go where you would send me. Please have mercy upon me, forgive and restore me. Please fill me up with your Holy Spirit so that I will boldly share your good news message with those in need. I hear you saying, “I will send you.” And today I answer, “YES!” In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
