The Lamb of God!

Tuesday, First Week of Advent

SCRIPTURE

Andrew, Apostle
John 1:35-42 (NRSV)

The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he exclaimed, "Look, here is the Lamb of God!" The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, "What are you looking for?" They said to him, "Rabbi" (which translated means Teacher), "where are you staying?" He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day. It was about four o'clock in the afternoon. One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first found his brother Simon and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated Anointed). He brought Simon to Jesus, who looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You are to be called Cephas" (which is translated Peter).

DEVOTION

This passage of scripture has always been one of my favorite as someone who is deeply committed to evangelism!

I love the declarations, "Look! Here is the Lamb of God!" and "We have found the Messiah."

During this season of Advent, as we watch and pray, calming heart and spirit, as we await the "coming" of our Lord's birthday, it is incumbent upon us, as Christians to boldly declare CHRIST within our spheres of influence.

It is clear beyond a shadow of a doubt how much we all need Jesus. In a world torn asunder by hate, violence, poverty, financial downturn, and environmental disaster, we all desperately need the salvation offered by Jesus Christ our Lord.

In a world filled with darkness, we can reflect the light of Christ to our neighbors, friends, co-workers, family members, and even our enemies. We can be role models regarding how to live in love, joy, peace, and hope. We can make a difference by walking in Love...

Today, won't you declare with boldness, "Look! Here is the Lamb of God!"?

Let's pray: Ah! Holy God! How awesome it is to behold you in the beauty of holiness. Thank you that Jesus is the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. Thank you for his life, death on the cross, and glorious resurrection on the third day. Please help me to boldly declare Messiah, today and always. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
