By Faith...

Thursday, Fourth Week in Advent

Galatians 3:6-14 (NRSV)

The promise of the Spirit

Just as Abraham "believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness," so, you see, those who believe are the descendants of Abraham. And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, declared the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "All the Gentiles shall be blessed in you." For this reason, those who believe are blessed with Abraham who believed.

For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all the things written in the book of the law." Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law; for "The one who is righteous will live by faith." But the law does not rest on faith; on the contrary, "Whoever does the works of the law will live by them." Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree" in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

DEVOTION

In these last days before CHRISTmas, I am certainly giving thanks for God's promise to bless all people through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ!

It amazes me every day, that God loves us so much that God was willing to give Jesus to die on the cross to atone for our sin and gift us with eternal life.

Yesterday, I was singing CHRISTmas carols with my children and I was struck by how precious it truly is that Love came down from Heaven, wrapped himself up in flesh, chose to be born in a manager and to live and grow amongst us, and then to allow himself to be murdered by humanity in order to redeem us from our sin.

I was further in awe of the great power of God that was able to raise Jesus from the dead, all for us!

WOW!

Isn't our God amazing?

Today, let us take a moment to meditate on what a precious gift JESUS truly is and then make up our minds to share that gift with everyone whom we meet this CHRISTmas season!

Let's pray: O God, Jesus truly is the reason for the season. In these waning days of the Advent Season please help me to slow down, get still, pray and read scripture, and remind myself of what is truly important. I pray this in Jesus' Name, Amen.
