SABBATH BLASPHEME

SCRIPTURE

Luke 6:1-5 (NRSV)

Picking grain on the sabbath

One sabbath while Jesus was going through the grainfields, his disciples plucked some heads of grain, rubbed them in their hands, and ate them. But some of the Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is not lawful on the sabbath?" Jesus answered, "Have you not read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He entered the house of God and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and gave some to his companions?" Then he said to them, "The Son of Man is lord of the sabbath."

SABBATH BLASPHEME

Did he just say
He's Lord of the Sabbath?
LORD...
SABBATH...
Blaspheme!
He has no idea
who he is talking to
messing with
upsetting
status quo
at times like these.
We should wash his mouth
with soap
And beat his back
until it bleeds
Working on the sabbath
Picking on the sabbath
EATING on the sabbath
well, of course eating...
hunger...
David...
He compares himself
to our David?
Who does he think he is?
Greater than David?
Indeed!
Eating, I mean picking, I mean working
I mean...
LOVING
on the Sabbath
Indeed!

ABUNDANT HEART (I Hear Ya)

LENT--DAY 16

SCRIPTURE

Luke 6:43-45 (NRSV)
A tree and its fruits

"No good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit; for each tree is known by its own fruit. Figs are not gathered from thorns, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. The good person out of the good treasure of the heart produces good, and the evil person out of evil treasure produces evil; for it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks.

I hear you
and I see you fruit
It's rotten to the core
Nasty
Bitter
Rancid

Although it appears
sweet
drenched in honey
delivered with a smile
I can taste it
in the depth of my soul
and it is
gross

Daddy taught me
not to expect good fruit
from a bad tree
and He was right

You all need
to check yourselves

Repent
Turn
Change

So that out of your hearts
will come

Words

Fruit

Actions

LOVE
JOY
PEACE
PATIENCE
KINDNESS
GOODNESS
FAITHFULNESS
GENTLENESS
SELF-CONTROL

that's the kind of fruit
that will please
The Master
and make Him smile.
