SCRIPTURE
Psalm 93 (NRSV)
The Lord is king, he is robed in majesty;
the Lord is robed, he is girded with strength.
He has established the world; it shall never be moved;
your throne is established from of old;
you are from everlasting.
The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
the floods have lifted up their voice;
the floods lift up their roaring.
More majestic than the thunders of mighty waters,
more majestic than the waves of the sea,
majestic on high is the Lord!
Your decrees are very sure;
holiness befits your house,
O Lord, forevermore.
DEVOTION
Many of us have looked on with dismay as we have surveyed the flood damage in Tennessee.
I have a brother-in-law in the state and he told me that there is much devastation and many people have lost their homes, property, furniture, mementos, and even their pets!
Worse than that, more than thirty people even lost their very lives, as the floods lifted up their roaring voices!
It is at times like these that we need to turn to God who reigns above the floods!
As we turn to God, we will be commissioned to offer prayer, love, and care to our brothers and sisters in need. No matter where we are, or what our financial situation, we are called to do our best to pray without ceasing and to provide for food, water, clothes, shelter, health care, and education to those experiencing this terrible emergency!
I believe that as God's people rise up and lead the recovery efforts needed in Tennessee, and all over the world, many people will be blessed by the good news message that God loves, gave, and saves!
Won't you please pray for the people of Tennessee, and then join me in making a gift to the American Red Cross in order to help in that state?
If so, please pray with me:
Dear God, we lift up our brothers and sisters in Tennessee. We pray for your grace, mercy, and provision as they put their lives back together by your Spirit. We pray that you will lead us to offer care as we are able. We pray this in Jesus' Name, Amen.
